The CUCCV widening participation programs aim to support students from the Clarence Valley to develop self-efficacy skills, broaden their opportunities, elevate their aspirations and enable them to follow their dreams.

Our Skills to Navigate program involves delivery by the CUCCV staff in collaboration with the classroom teacher. The program is framed around transferable skills that apply to the workplace and lifelong learning. The CUCCV staff adjust the program according to the needs and interests of the school. Our signature program, Skills to Navigate, has been implemented across the Valley and engaged over 400 students. Parents, staff and community members are invited to understand more about the program through this 5 minute video:

The goal of our widening participation programs is to increase levels of university participation of under-represented demographics to levels which reflect their representation in the broader Australian population. Research has shown that every year of school lost past Year 10 subtracts 10% from lifetime earnings. The equity groups covered by widening participation programs typically include:

  • students from regional, rural and remote areas;
  • students who are the first in their family to study higher education
  • low socioeconomic status (SES) students;
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students;
  • students with disability; and
  • students from non-English speaking backgrounds
